Pellet gun found in book bag of Prince Edward third grader

FARMVILLE, VA (WWBT) -

A third grade student at Prince Edward Elementary School is in trouble for bringing a gun to the school Friday.

The unloaded pellet gun was found in the child's book bag.

School officials said a letter was sent home to parents after school, alerting them of the incident.

The letter states, "The classroom teacher promptly reported it to administrators - who then acted quickly and appropriately to secure the student and the weapon."

Under Virginia law, the child is now facing a minimum expulsion of one year.
