Police arrest man in connection with string of car thefts at MCV

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A Richmond man is behind bars in connection with a series of car thefts, including some on the MCV campus.

Henrico Police arrested William Eric Chambers, 38, on Friday after an extensive investigation led by the VCU Police Department.

Chambers is in a Henrico jail facing twelve felony charges, including five counts of auto theft, four counts of grand larceny, felony assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of burglarious tools and felony eluding of police. Additional charges are expected to be brought by VCU Police and other localities, according to authorities.

Chambers has no affiliation with the university.

VCU Police had previously said Chambers was also suspected in thefts from businesses.

    Woman hit and killed by van in Richmond

    A woman has died, after police say she was struck by a van in Richmond. Police say the woman was walking across the 1100 block of Azalea Avenue around 3 p.m. Saturday, when she was struck by a van turning left off Seminary Avenue. The driver of that van stayed on the scene. Police say the woman was already dead when they got to the scene. The driver is not facing charges at this time. The investigation continues, as police work to notify the victim's family.
