RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond's interim director of the Department of Social Services resigned Friday to take a job with the state, according to sources.
Tonya Vincent was named interim director the post and was expected to help clean up the department after it was plagued by issues, including allegations DSS was putting children in harm's way.
Instead, Vincent was appointed as Virginia's Deputy Director of Public Safety and will not be returning to Richmond Police, as originally planned, according to sources.
Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones' office confirmed Vincent is no longer director, but would not discuss her new employment.
"Ms. Rebecca China is the acting director under the management of Steve Harms. We do have top candidates for the position identified and are in the final stages of making a decision," wrote Press Secretary Tammy Hawley.
