Richmond restaurant increases security after trio robs customer at gunpoint

A Richmond restaurant manager is bringing in extra security after a customer is robbed by three armed men. It happened at Los Amigos in the 6800 block of Midlothian Turnpike.

Manager Rodolfo Padilla is still having a hard time believing a customer was robbed by three men at gun point on what is usually a slow Thursday night.

"I was kind of surprised because Thursday night when we are slow," said Padilla. "We don't usually have that happening."

The restaurant is adding Thursday to their weekend line up where security is on hand from open to close.

"Yes," said Padilla. "It's for our customers and for our safety. They robbed them outside, maybe if they did not find them, they would have come in here and tried to rob us."

Richmond Police just announced robberies of people are up two percent from this time last year.

"To change this is going to only come with prayer," said Charles Willis who is executive director of Citizens Against Crime.

Willis was encouraged to watch Chief Ray Tarasovic report major crimes down at least 4 percent. Willis hopes to work with police to tackle robberies.

"We are going to take a proactive approach with educating our young folks, educating our citizens, and educating our senior citizens on crime prevention," said Willis.

Police are convinced that someone saw something. If you have any information contact crime stoppers at 780-1000.
