HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

A Henrico father entered an Alford plea to involuntary manslaughter Thursday in the death of his 3-month-old son.

Prosecutors say Cory Walls shook his son, Shane, violently on at least two occasions. In addition to the fatal February 2013 incident, prosecutors say there was evidence of a prior incident that left the child with a brain bleed and seven broken ribs.

Under the Alford plea, Walls does not admit guilt but understand there's enough evidence to be found guilty were the case to go to trial.

Walls initially faced one count of murder and two counts of child neglect after Shane died. Investigators say Walls brought the baby boy to a hospital. The child was transported to VCU Medical Center where doctors say he died from internal injuries.

It took three months for Walls to be arrested as police say they were collecting evidence to bring charges against him.

Walls sentence will be determined on May 20.
