HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Prince George County mother charged in the deaths of her two children pleads guilty to reduced charges Wednesday.

Brittney Downing is accused of leaving her 20-month-old son Jelani and 2-month-old daughter Jade in a car for nearly eight hours while working at a Glen Allen hotel. Jelani died, while the girl was taken to an intensive care unit at VCU Medical Center. She died four days later.

According to the medical examiner, the children's internal temperatures reached the 103 to 104 degree range. They said the reason Jade lasted longer is that her brain wasn't fully formed and had more room to expand in her head.

Downing pled guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter and a charge of felony child neglect. She will be sentenced March 26 at 10 a.m.
