Henrico reports few school bus issues despite cold

Posted: Updated:
HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Henrico school officials say they managed to have a typical day busing students Tuesday, despite some of the coldest morning temperatures in years.

Around 20 of the county's 600 buses had  trouble starting, but spare buses were sent out in plenty of time to pick up students, according to officials. The two-hour delayed start to school allowed the school system a greater response time and minimized the impact of any unexpected developments, officials said.

Officials say more parents than usual chose to drive their kids to school, so they wouldn't have to wait outside in cold weather for a bus.

School officials say there was only one school which experienced a slight heating issue, where the temperature wouldn't go above 67 degrees. However, school officials say the slightly lower temperature issue was resolved prior to students arriving in class.
