Woman was watching TV during eastern Henrico drive-by shooting

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

The search is on for the person who shot up an eastern Henrico home.

It happened in the 3200 block of Piccolo Drive Sunday night. Two people were home when it happened and had to take cover.

From what we can see, most of the bullets went through the front porch area. The woman inside at the time of the shooting is too afraid to go on camera, but she tells NBC12 she was just watching TV when she heard the gunshots, and she says it sounded like an explosion.

Several windows on the bottom floor were hit, the glass from the front door shattered, and there's even a bullet hole in an upstairs bedroom window. Only one home was hit in this reported drive-by shooting. By looking at the house, you can count at least a dozen bullet holes.

"It's terrifying to think you can be sitting in your home and somebody just ride by and shoot it up," said Karen Sears, a neighbor. Sears was home making dinner with her 4-year-old grandson when they saw the crime scene outside their window.

Officers blocked off the neighborhood for hours, looking for shell casings. Henrico Police say the call came in for shots fired just after 6:15 p.m. Sunday night. Two people, a man and a woman, were inside the home when it happened. While nobody was injured, police say this does not appear to be a random shooting.

However, the homeowner says she doesn't know why her home was a target.

"I know some people may not want to speak about it or say anything," says Richard Hatcher, the Neighborhood Crime Watch leader. "But for your sake, it could be you next time. So if you can please, it can be anonymous."

He believes somebody out there knows something, and that will be the key to solving this drive-by.

The woman says she doesn't know what the suspects look like.

The neighborhood does have a Crime Watch meeting coming up in a couple weeks. It's scheduled for January 28 at 7 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center on Laburnum Avenue.
