Inaugural events kick off this weekend

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The first events for Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe's inauguration will kick off Saturday.

The incoming governor is requesting Virginians participate in a day of service Saturday by offering community service.

Two events are being held in Richmond. A James River cleanup is being held at 12:30 p.m. at Great Shiplock Park with the James River Association, Delegate Betsy Carr and Delegate Delores McQuinn. Volunteers will also be at the Central Virginia Food Bank at 9:30 a.m. to help sort, process, and box donations. 

Also Saturday, the first of three balls will be held in Abingdon. The second ball takes place Sunday in Norfolk and is free for military and their families.

McAullife's official swearing in will be held January 11 at the State Capitol at noon.
