January 2 RESTAURANT REPORT: Food had to be thrown out

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Health Department reports that two restaurants had to throw out some food after they had temperature problems, and one had a repeated problem with fruit flies.

The fruit flies were noted at Sapori Italian Restaurant at 3513 Festival Park Plaza in Chesterfield, by the handsink in the kitchen and bar area. Sapori received 4 critical violations on its last health inspection report. The flies and other problems were corrected by the follow-up inspection two weeks later. But the report says tomato sauce was again not being cooled correctly to prevent the growth of bacteria. The sauce had to be thrown out.

Ichiban Grill Sushi and Buffet inside Virginia Center Commons on Brook Road in Henrico also had to toss out some chicken. The inspection report said that among its 5 critical violations, the Hibachi chicken on the buffet was not being kept hot enough. Other violations were corrected right away, too. But Ichiban repeated two critical violations on its follow-up inspection, including a lack of sanitizer in the dish sink. Both were again corrected.

There wasn't a single violation at the Caribbean Chef, 901 Hull Street Road in Richmond. This restaurant and bar, serving Caribbean food in a tropical atmosphere, wins the NBC12 Hall of Fame Award for acing its last three inspections.
