Amazon expands locker service to Richmond

Amazon hopes its new locker service will save you from missed deliveries or stolen packages, while reducing the companies shipping costs.

The massive, bright yellow box has been outside the 7-11 on Grace and Harrison streets near VCU for about two months and is pretty hard to miss.

"I actually have never seen it until, like, you literally mentioned it," said VCU student Harold Claros.

Amazon hopes the box will start to turn heads soon, especially for those who don't want to miss a package delivery.

Amazon shoppers can select the locker as a shipping destination for no additional cost and will receive a special key code to retrieve their package for extra security.

"I've been going out of my way to not order things because the boxes are left on the floor," said Claros.

Amazon hopes this solves that problem, and students we spoke in Richmond are taking notice.

"I'm glad I know that. Now I'll definitely come and try the machine out," said VSU student Takisha Fields.

Right now, there is only one Amazon Locker in the Richmond area, but there could be more coming to the area as Amazon continues to roll out this service nationwide.

The lockers can only hold smaller items that weigh less than 10 pounds and buyers have three days to pick up their package.
