Spurrier: Clowney healthy, but "heavy" foot is an issue

ORLANDO, FL (WIS) -

South Carolina Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier says star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is 100 percent for Wednesday afternoon's Capital One Bowl, but he still has one slight nagging foot injury that most American drivers deal with on a daily basis.

"His little foot problems or whatever are gone. He needs help with his driving. His foot gets a little heavy down there at times, I guess, so hopefully he'll get that straightened out," said Spurrier.

Of course, Spurrier is making light of a big time controversy down in Columbia where Clowney was stopped and ticketed for speeding.

The most recent traffic stop happened just before the Gamecocks traveled to Orlando for the bowl.

Clowney, who appeared on dash cam footage provided by the Columbia Police Department, told the traffic officer he was going 84 mph in a 55 mph zone because, "I've got to get to the stadium before they leave."

The junior defensive end was released by the officer a short time later.

On Dec. 9, Clowney was stopped on Interstate 77 while going 110 mph in a 70 mph zone.

This was the second time Spurrier quipped about his player's driving habits. When the team first arrived in Orlando, the Head Ball Coach said Clowney needed driving lessons.

"At least he'll have enough money to pay for it a week or so from now, but yeah, he needs to go to driving school," Spurrier said. "Hopefully they'll send him there after the bowl game."

But with Clowney likely declaring for the NFL Draft shortly after the bowl game, Spurrier openly speculated as to if the defensive end will already have a chauffeur waiting for him following the game.

"We're all wondering if he's got a limo to take him out of the ball park or not," said Spurrier.
