The two-month old child who went missing with her mother in South Richmond has been returned to her family.
The teen mom, Bertha Romero-Curbelo, 15, from South Richmond took off with her two-month-old baby Tuesday. She was seen walking away from her home on Britannia Road, with her baby in her arms.
Bertha Romero-Curbelo has not yet been located. She was last seen wearing a black jacket with a gold peace sign on the back, blue jeans and black boots.
Officers say they have no reason to believe Romero-Curbelo would harm herself or is otherwise in danger, but they would like her to return to her family.
Bertha's mother, Yoelia Curbelo, says she has legal custody of the child. She also says Bertha has disappeared with the infant, named Natalia, before.
Bertha took the child Tuesday morning. Yoelia says Bertha didn't take any clothing or items for the baby.
Yoelia says Bertha has a difficult time living home. The family clashes with the baby's father, who's also a teen.
The grandmother also says that Bertha's on probation, for running away so many times. However, a family struggle like this escalates, a child is taken. Richmond police sent out an alert, asking for the public's help to locate Bertha.
The grandmother says Bertha often stays with the child's father, however she's been unable to reach him.
Yoelia says Bertha could even be charged with kidnapping, since the child isn't legally hers.
Anyone who may have any information on the teen's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word "ITip" followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.
