V-DOT lifting road work during holiday travel

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

On Christmas Eve, thousands of people are expected to hit the road, and if you're driving, it looks like road work should be clear by the afternoon.

Experts estimate almost 91% of holiday travelers are getting to their destinations by driving.

V-DOT says most lane closures should be lifted on I-95 and other major roads by noon. That's good news if you still have a long way to go or if you have several destinations you need to hit along the way. Even with the lift on lane closures, you should allow extra time in your travel plans. Police also want to remind drivers of the "Move Over Law"; if you see flashing red, blue, or amber lights while you're driving, move over into the next lane if you can.

You can't predict everything on the road, but you can keep track of it locally through social media using V-DOT's twitter account
