Happy Holidays! When I say Happy Holidays to some people they think I am ignoring Christmas and trying to just be politically correct. That couldn't be any further from the truth. I really mean Happy Holidays and that certainly includes Christmas.
As many of you know there are a number of holidays that are celebrated in December and January. Here is a list and you may celebrate more than one:
- Christmas: The most widely celebrated holiday in the United States which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.
- Hanukkah: The Jewish holiday that precedes Christmas and commemorates the rededication of the temple in Jerusalem after it was ransacked by the ruling Syrian/Greek regime.
- Yule fest: Another name for the Winter Solstice
- Kwanzaa: A non-religious African American holiday celebrating family and community.
So when I say Happy Holidays I really mean it and I mean it for all of the many people that I know who may be celebrating one or more of these holidays.
On behalf of my colleagues at NBC12 I want to wish you Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
