Angel Tree calls for volunteers to sort through multitude of Christmas gifts

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 5,000 children in Central Virginia will receive gifts through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program, but now, volunteers are needed to sort through mountains of Christmas presents.

The Salvation Army Christmas Center is now filled with hundreds of brand new bikes, toys and clothes, but volunteers are in short supply to make sure all the gifts go to the right children.

"We have plenty of presents for every child," said Matthew Pochily, marketing and communications director of the Central Virginia Salvation Army.  "But we desperately need volunteers to sort through these gifts before we start distribution on Monday."

The Christmas Center is located near the Diamond, and there are two ways to set up convenient volunteer times.

1) Visit the Christmas Center in person at 1407 Cummings Drive. Just follow the red arrows on the Angel Tree signs posted on the street.

2) Text "VOLRVA" to 51555. The Salvation Army will then contact you to pick a volunteer time of your choosing.
