Drivers urged to be cautious Wednesday morning

Posted: Updated:
CULPEPER, VA (WWBT) -

The Virginia Department of Transportation is urging people who must drive early Wednesday morning to allow plenty of time for their trip and to expect to encounter icy conditions.

Temperatures are forecast to plummet well below freezing overnight and there will likely be black ice on many roads. Black ice forms where water has run back into the roadways. It is also likely to form on bridges, overpasses, ramps and turn lanes, as well as roads near water and at high elevations.

Some secondary roads, especially in Fauquier, Rappahannock and western Culpeper counties, may still have patches of snow and slush on the road surface which will also freeze overnight.
