Winter weather moves on, threat of freezing roads stick around

Posted: Updated:

For most of the day, roads remained clear except for occasional rain and a few flurries of yes, the white stuff. While it wasn't enough to cause a panic the threat of what could possibly happen later tonight has travelers on edge.

Kathie Virunurm braved a downpour of snow in Northern Virginia traveling South on Interstate 95 to reach North Carolina

"It was thick I had about this much piled up on my car but it had slowed down by the time I had got on the roads it was tapering off," Virunurm said.

While most of the winter weather has moved out of this area the main concern now is wet roads freezing and turning into ice.

"We've got snow shovels, we've got ice melt, we've got sleds and all that stuff," Ace Hardware Manager Bill Holman said.

"That Stuff" Ace Hardware manager Bill Holman is selling today is exactly what Amanda Terrell is hoping to get her hands on this evening. with the threat of wet roads turning to ice she is planning to treat her driveway and side walks again Tuesday night.

VDOT crews will be on the ready in Henrico, Hanover, Ashland and parts of Richmond to treat roads if temperatures drop causing roads to freeze.
