MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK: Make your own cheap cleaners

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Got spots on the carpet? Gunk you can't get off a pan? There are simple solutions you can make yourself without having to run to the store and spend money.

I love this sturdy pan but it's old and pretty gross on the bottom. So I put a quarter cup of baking soda in a bowl and added hydrogen peroxide- just enough to make a paste. I scrubbed the bottom of the pan with the mixture and a washcloth. Within minutes, the results were clear. Total cost..about 10 cents.

To me, bathroom cleaners smell overpowering. So I mix 6 ounces of warm white vinegar and 5 ounces of blue dawn. I shake it up and spray it on the bathroom surfaces. I let it sit for a minute. After a little bit of elbow grease, it's working. It took off the regular grime and most of the rust stain in the tub. This bottle was only 20 cents to make.

I have my kids to thank for a juice stain on the carpet. Think back to science class for this solution. I use a half cup of baking soda and slowly mix in white vinegar. After the bubbling settles down, it makes a paste. I gently work it into the stained area with an old toothbrush. I let it dry for a few hours and vacuum the treated spot. The results...the stain is 100% gone. Chemical free removal for pennies.

Five dollars for Febreeze...not in this house. I can make it for 10 cents. For a small bottle, I our one tablespoon of liquid fabric softener and half a teaspoon of baking soda, then fill the rest of the bottle with water. Shake it to mix and you have homemade air freshener that's safe to use on any surface.
