Court docs: guns and ammo found in Chesterfield home involved in standoff

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Ammunition and guns, that's what Chesterfield Police found inside the home of a man involved in a standoff on Thanksgiving, according to a search warrant. The police-involved shooting happened Thanksgiving night at a home in the North Oaks subdivision off of Centralia Road.

Police say they were forced to shoot and wound the suspect.

The affidavit, which could tell us why officers fired their weapons, has been sealed. Police confirm six officers are on administrative leave, including a supervisor. The search warrant and an emergency protective order filed by the suspect's father the night this happened are providing new details.

Collecting evidence took hours. Investigators were still collecting bullets the next morning. Some had hit the inside of neighbors' homes.

The suspect, 47-year-old Michael Killough, is in the hospital right now after police say they were forced to fire because Killough 'engaged' them. Chesterfield Police confirm five officers fired their weapons.

A criminal complaint says  Killough's father was trying to calm his son when Killough started "…banging his head on the counter."  It says Killough hit his father "…leaving a mark on his left eye." The father filed this 72-hour emergency protective order against his own son.

Neighbors tell NBC12 Killough came outside with a long gun, saying he wanted to die.

The search warrant says police confiscated one Remington 12-gauge shotgun along with another long rifle with the name "R. Killough" etched on it.    Investigators also took different types of ammunition including 41 12-gauge shotgun rounds, 15 .9 millimeter bullets, 15 .38 caliber bullets, a rifle magazine and empty ammunition boxes.  It also says police also took a duffel bag.

Killough charged with felony assault on a police officer and domestic assault which is a misdemeanor.

As protocol, the chesterfield officers involved in the shooting are now on administrative leave during this investigation.
