VDOT estimates Chesterfield fire caused $2.7 million in damage

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A fire at a VDOT property in Chesterfield caused around $2.7 million in damage, the agency reported Tuesday.

The two-alarm fire damaged a 15,000 square foot building and several pieces of equipment Saturday. VDOT hasn't decided which items will be replaced or how it will replace them.

The Chesterfield and Colonial Heights fire departments responded to the fire at VDOT's Richmond District complex located in the 2400 block of Pine Forest Drive in Chesterfield.

State Police's are still investigation the fire.

There were no VDOT employees on site prior to the fire and there were no injuries.

VDOT says it doesn't expect the fire to hinder its ability to maintain roads or respond to weather events.
