Possible casino announcement coming as Palmer prepares for recount

PALMER, MA (WSHM) -

The Boston Herald is reporting there could be an announcement of a casino deal made between Mohegan Sun and Suffolk Downs soon.

That announcement comes a day before Palmer is slated to do a vote recount on the failed casino vote.

The mayor of Revere tells The Boston Herald the announcement will likely be made with in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Talks have been underway between Suffolk Downs and Connecticut-based Mohegan Sun to build a resort casino at the racetrack.

A vote recount will be held Tuesday in Palmer after Mohegan's casino proposal failed in the Nov. 5 election.

A Mohegan spokesman said there is nothing to report when asked about The Boston Herald article.

Mohegan has said they will pursue the more than 130 acres off Thorndike Street for "non-gaming" opportunities.

CBS 3 Springfield will have coverage of Palmer's recount on our website and on CBS 3 Springfield news First At 4 on Tuesday.
