RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Democrat Mark Herring continues to cling to a 165-vote lead in the Virginia Attorney General race, as the State Board of Elections certified the ballot Monday.
The completed certification sets the stage for a recount in the contest between Herring and Republican Mark Obenshain. Obenshain has not said if he'll seek a recount, but has the option with the margin being less than one-half of one percent of the total vote. Obenshain would have to make the request within 10 days of Monday's certification.
Each candidate has already announced a transition team, despite the race remaining contested. The recount would take place at taxpayer expense.
