Colquitt County's Ponder signs with GA State

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Colquitt County standout Makeba Ponder is headed to Atlanta.

The Lady Packer guard signed with Georgia State Monday.

Ponder is on her way to 2000 career points with the Packers, and chose GSU over Winthrop and Florida.

She says State has wanted her from the beginning, and that made the difference.

"They've been coming with me since I was in the ninth grade. And they come to every game," Ponder says. "They've been trying to get me and now they finally got me."

"They've been everywhere we go. They're right there in the stands," says Colquitt County head coach Rondesha Williams. "I think they were sincere in their recruitment we had a lot of schools wait to the last minute, but Georgia State has been there since day one."

Ponder says she has high expectations for herself with the Lady Panthers.

"I'm going to come in and be the best shooting guard they ever had," she says. "I'm going to make that team better by being a leader, and do some big things for them."

Ponder and the Lady Packers open their 2013 season Tuesday in Moultrie.
