Two dead in Dinwiddie house fire

DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) - Two people were killed in a house fire in Dinwiddie Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out just after noon Monday in the 6000 block of Cox Road.

Flames were shooting from the single-story home when crews arrived on scene. A neighbor reported two people were still inside, but by the time firefighters were able to find them they had died.

The medical examiners office is working to confirm their identities and determine the exact cause of death.

Firefighters spent two hours getting the fire under control, in part because there aren't any municipal fire hydrants nearby. Tankers had to shuttle water from a dry hydrant three miles away. The home was severely damaged and Dinwiddie fire and sheriffs are working with Virginia State Police to figure out how the fire started.
