12 Investigates: Mother speaks out after deadly towing accident

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Whether its carrying a boat or pulling farm equipment or furniture, we've all, at some point, been behind a car or truck towing a trailer loaded with something - or maybe you're the one pulling the trailer.

Loose trailers being towed improperly behind vehicles are responsible for thousands of deaths over the years. Now a mother, who lost her husband and 3-year-old daughter because of a loose trailer, is sending out a message that may change the way you drive.

    Fire crews are investigating a fire at the city's PET Dairy Plant, in the 1500 block of Robin Hood Road. Officials say the fire broke out just after noon Saturday. We're told rescue teams have been brought in to help, but crews say there is no hazard or emergency at this time. No injuries have been reported at this time.     Richmond police have identified the bicyclist killed after being hit by a car on Friday. Police say John H. Shelton, Jr., 69, was hit at the intersection of Hopkins Road and Veterans Street at 10:39 pm. Officers arrived and found Shelton unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.     William Huff terrorized Sierra Vista during the spring and summer of 1967. Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
