A historic east end theater built in the 1930's is now a shell of its former glory, but not for long. In January it will get a much needed makeover.
A movie has not been shown at the theater in 40 years. The building in the Church Hill neighborhood was purchased four years ago by a new owner. Just two weeks ago builders got the approval to get started with renovations. " I feel like we are kind of weaving this into the fabric of an already existing community" said Joshua Bilder, the owner of the theater.
The theater will be turned into a 22-unit apartment building. It will also have about 3,000 square feet of commercial space. "When I saw this building, I saw the potential" said Bilder.
Construction is expected to get underway in January of 2014. the project should be complete the following year.
