RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Kim Dodson typically comes to this martin's grocery store in Stony Point once a week. Luckily she and her young child were not at the store Saturday night when police say a man came in and demanded cash from a clerk.

Dodson says while this makes her feel uneasy she finds peace knowing that police patrol the area frequently.

"I know it happens often but I did see a police officer out here just a moment ago and I know that I have a police officer that lives in my neighborhood, I have two of them actually," Dodson said.

Despite a recent robbery here at this Martin's Food Store many are saying that it won't stop them from frequenting the area.

"I've been a resident here for a long time I'm sort of surprised about it and hopefully its not something that is going to continue," Zedler said

What will continue is Peter Zedler's visits to this shopping center. he told me Sunday afternoon that even though this may be the second robbery here in just a few months the area is not a bad place at all.

"I hope it won't make people afraid but again its an unusual occurrence in this neighborhood," Zedler said.

15 minutes before the robbery at Martins. Richmond police say that there was an attempted robbery at the Baskin Robbins ice cream shop on Forest Hill Avenue.

The owner told us today that she was approached by a man who demanded money from the register. She told him to leave because he was being video taped by security cameras.

He got away empty handed. while this man is still at large Dodson says its important that everyone remains safe even if you do feel the need to protect your business.

"You want to stand up for yourself and protect your business and protect what you have then again you don't want to put yourself in harms way because you don't know what people will do nowadays," Dodson said
