Sooners outlast Red Raiders in Norman

Posted: Updated:
NORMAN, OK (KCBD) -

The Oklahoma Sooners outlasted Texas Tech in a back and forth game 38-30. Both teams had to endure an hour and fifteen minute rain delay before the game kicked off.

It was a close game down to the wire but with a 35-30 lead and 8 minutes left in the 4th Quarter Oklahoma drove 12 plays 53 yards taking off more than 5 minutes off the clock and capped it off with a 37 yard field goal from Mike Hunnicut to put the Sooners up 8. Tech got the ball back with just 1:17 left and were not able to score.

The Sooners imposed their will on the Tech defense all game with a balanced attack, rushing for 279 yards and throwing for 249 yards. Blake Bell led the way at Quarterback for the Sooners. He finished 14 of 22 for 249 yards and 2 Touchdowns through the air. Damien Williams led the way on the ground with 19 carries for 97 yards and 2 Touchdowns in the win.

The Red Raiders were impressive on offense as well led by Freshman Quarterback Davis Webb who finished 33 of 53 for 374 yards, 2 Touchdowns and 2 costly Interceptions. Jace Amaro, Eric Ward and Jakeem Grant all had over 100 yards receiving in the loss. Tech finished with 477 total yards on 79 plays.

The turnover bug plagued Tech as they had 3 total turnovers that all led to Oklahoma points. The team fell down multiple scores in the game a few times but continued to battle back, including taking the lead momentary 24-21 in the 4th Quarter. But the Rushing attack of Oklahoma proved to be too much late in the game for Tech and Oklahoma was able to hold them off.

Texas Tech drops to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big 12. No time to rest for Tech as #19 Oklahoma State comes to Lubbock next week in another big match up for the Red Raiders.
