McAuliffe is a long-time friend and associate of the Clinton family, raising millions of dollars for Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's runs for president. Both Clintons have already hosted fundraisers on behalf of McAuliffe in the 2013 election. Mrs. Clinton was the headliner at a public event for McAuliffe on Saturday.

President Clinton previously stumped for McAuliffe in his failed 2009 bid for the Democratic nomination for Governor.
