PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - A car crashed into a Petersburg home Thursday afternoon, sending the driver to VCU Medical Center. An elderly woman was inside the home at the time of the crash but she wasn't injured.
The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. at 1308 Beazley Street. According to Petersburg Police, a green Honda Civic was driving down South West Street when the driver veered off course, hit a curb then slammed into the one-story brick home.
70-year-old Rosalee McCray was inside at the time. "I had just gotten off of work and I was in the house, sitting on the sofa looking at Jerry Springer. All of a sudden I heard this 'bam', I thought it was the trash collector."
When McCray got outside, she says it appeared the driver was in bad shape. According to McCray, the driver had to be cut out of her vehicle and it appeared as if she had suffered at least one broken leg.
McCray says, the driver was conscious but had to be airlifted to the hospital.
As for the home, it has since been condemned. The Red Cross is assisting the McCray's until they can figure out what to do next.
