Springfield home likely a total loss after fire

A fire ripped through a home in Springfield Monday morning on Union Street, leaving six people displaced.

The call came in just after 9:30 for heavy smoke in the area.

Six people live there, three of them were inside when it started. Everyone was able to get out before firefighters arrived.

Nobody was hurt but a family cat was unaccounted for.

It isn't clear yet how the fire started.

The 125 year-old home is likely a total loss.

"It was built in 1888 so I'm sure there are no fire stops internally in the house. Fire has a direct avenue up the walls and across the ceiling in all these old structures, plus there is a large addition on the backside. It was a very tough fire to fight," said Deputy Chief Glenn Guyer.

The American Red Cross has been called in to help those affected.
