CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

At least 13 cars were burglarized in Chesterfield County overnight. According to the victims, the burglars made away with thousands of dollars in goods.

It happened in the Woodland Pond neighborhood Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Chesterfield police say, in each case, the car was unlocked.

At one home, the burglars stole two GPS devices, an iPod, medication and even an engagement ring! From other vehicles, electronics, cash and GPS devices were stolen.

Resident Charlie Turfboer sent an email to some 300 fellow Woodland Pond residents Thursday evening saying,

"If you leave your cars in your driveway, please make the effort to lock the doors. Yesterday, two men were seen in the neighborhood looking around. They were asked by a neighbor what they were doing and they told him they were looking for Iron Bridge Road. He thought they looked suspicious and he called the police. This morning, several cars were broken into and items were stolen. They hit the blocks of Waterfowl between Egret and Woodland Pond Parkway. There might have been others, someone told me 16 cars were broken into. Hopefully, they won't strike twice in the same area, but please take care and don't leave yourselves vulnerable to thieves."

Chesterfield police urge residents to remove all valuables from their cars and keep their car doors locked when unattended.
