RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
Book lovers, mark your calendars. One of our area's largest sales of the year starts next Monday. You can find great bargains at the VCU Friends of the Library sale.
17,000...that's the estimate of how many books will be sold at the annual book sale.
"You won't find them cheaper anywhere," said Gregory Kimbrell, membership and events coordinator.
Paper backs are only one dollar. Hard backs start at two bucks.
"We have an unusually large collection of books on the presidents, we have a huge collection of biographies," said Kimbrell.
Subjects include fiction, poetry, science and religion - even cookbooks.
"If you can name it, we have something," said Kimbrell.
"Bring your Christmas list, because we have great art books, people bring their collections," said Carol Hampton, Friends of the Library Board member.
A French impressionism book, normally retailing for $100 is no more than $4.
"We have a very extensive collection of opera this year," said John Mahoney, Chairman of the Friends of the Library Board.
Hundreds of records and CDs, $2 DVDs, plus thousands of comic books for 10 cents a piece.
"We're one of the best comic collections in the nation, and we can only keep so many copies of each comic," said Kimbrell.
All of the items have been donated to the library. Some get used in the library upstairs, the ones sold downstairs benefit the library financially.
"The books get circulated, brings people a little bit closer to VCU, the prices are reasonable and the funds go into the library and they support the services that we do for students and users of the library," said Mahoney.
"A lot of what we hear is, 'I never knew that I needed this book until I saw it here,'" said Kimbrell.
The sale opens to the public Monday at noon and runs all week at the Cabell Library on VCU's campus.
