Where to find help enrolling in Obamacare

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, goes live online Tuesday.

People can enroll beginning October 1, however navigating through that enrollment process will, no doubt, be confusing for many.

There will be counselors stationed around Virginia to help answer questions via the Enroll Virginia project. They can answer questions about what kind of health coverage is available, how much it costs, and how to enroll. A lot of those details, though, won't be released until Tuesday, when Enroll Virginia's website goes live.

"We're all working busily to be ready for next week," said Jill Hanken, project director of Enroll Virginia.

The best place to get information is online at https://www.healthcare.gov/. Applicants also sign up through the website. Live-chat is available for questions. A 24-7 hotline is also available.

Hanken says Enroll Virginia will station 20 counselors across the state. Counselors will take questions at places like healthcare clinics, law offices, and hospitals like Chippenham and St. Mary's hospitals.

"We're building the list of assistors, throughout the state who can help people if need assistance," continued Hanken.

Consider scheduling an appointment since there may be a line of people needing advice.

"We're going to do the best we can to help people who need our services, but obviously with 20 navigators statewide, we can only provide a slice of the kind of assistance necessary," added Hanken.

Exact details of the different insurance plans and how much they'll cost, won't be released until Tuesday, either.

However, you'll have time. The cut-off date is the end of March to sign up for coverage in 2014. If you want your insurance plan to start January 1, the deadline is December 15.
