Two Northampton police employees placed on administrative leave

NORTHAMPTON, MA (WSHM) -

Two Northampton Police Department employees are on paid-administrative leave while the Hampden County District Attorney investigates potential theft inside the department.

Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz said Police Chief Russel Sienkiewicz became aware of inaccuracies in an employee's payroll records.

Hampden county's District Attorney, Mark Mastroianni is investigating per the request of the Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan. Sullivan works with the department, so they want to avoid any conflict of interest.

Mayor Narkewicz released this statement to CBS 3 saying "While I understand the public's interest in knowing more about this matter, I must balance that interest against the legal rights of our employees to a fair and impartial investigation."

Chief Russel Sienkiewitz told CBS 3 "Under any circumstance, we do not comment on the existence or content of any internal police department investigation until it has reached its proper conclusion. Any premature reporting of names, positions or allegations from anonymous sources would be highly speculative in any scenario."
