Local Braves fans hope more in store after division title

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

For the first time in eight seasons, the Atlanta Braves are division champions.

Once upon a time, division titles were yearly occurrences for the Braves.

Atlanta won 14 straight NL East titles between 1991 and 2005, but hadn't finished atop the division since then.

But with a Washington Nationals loss to Miami Sunday, the Braves officially clinched the division crown.

Local fans say it's a great accomplishment for this team, but they hope it isn't the only title Atlanta brings home in 2013.

Many hope a World Series title is in the team's future.

"This team is a young team. They're a good team," says lifelong fan Gene Foster. "They have a good coach and I just believe they have a real good chance at winning the World Series."

"That would be awesome," says Chip Norman of the team possibly winning the World Series. It'd be the first one since 95, so it's been a while. They hadn't been there in a while. So that'd be great."

Foster says he really thinks this team has what it takes to be world champions.

"They're just a real good team," Foster says. "They've been getting support when guys get hurt. They bring up guys from the farm system. They have probably the best bullpen in baseball. I think they have a pretty good chance."

The Braves have seven regular season games remaining, but don't expect them to just breeze through now that they've clinched. Atlanta is still trying to lock up the National League's home field advantage.

They lead the Cardinals by a half game for the best record in the National League.
