Man rescued from Church Hill fire dies from injuries

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A man rescued by firefighters from a burning Church Hill home has died from his injuries, according to Richmond Fire officials.

Firefighters pulled 40-year-old Alfred C. Graham from the home on Chimborazo Boulevard near Leigh Street Tuesday. The fire started in the kitchen area of a second floor apartment and firefighters went in to rescue Graham despite near zero-visibility.

Graham was taken to VCU Medical Center and the fire was brought under control in about an hour. The fire caused $80,000 in damage and displaced two adults and two children who lived downstairs.

Monday afternoon, fire officials reported Graham died from his injuries sustained as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though it does not appear to be suspicious.
