Chesterfield police investigate rash of car thefts

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Chesterfield police are investigating a rash of car thefts and attempted car thefts that have affected neighborhoods as far South as Matoaca, up to North Chesterfield.

According to Chesterfield police, there have been five reported car thefts or attempted thefts from Thursday to Sunday. Detectives don't believe the crimes are connected.

On Sunday at 3:30 p.m., a Chesterfield woman reported that someone broke into her home at Wayside Townhomes and stole her car keys. The unknown suspect(s) drove away with her 2006 silver Dodge minivan.

NBC12 spoke to the owner off-camera who was distraught about the theft, which took place in broad daylight.

On September 7 around 9 p.m., a victim reported to Chesterfield police that her unlocked vehicle was stolen from White Oak Tree & Farms apartment complex.

On September 5 around 5:00 p.m., a report came into police of a stolen 1990 blue Ford pickup.

Plus, there were attempted car thefts that were unsuccessful. One allegedly took place in Chippenham Square last Friday. The other reportedly took place on Thursday in downtown Chester.
