NASA to launch rocket on Friday to return to the moon

WALLOPS ISLAND, VA (WWBT) -

NASA is launching a new mission on Friday to explore the atmosphere of the moon.

The Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) will be launched by the Minotaur V rocket from the Wallops Flight Facility at Wallops Island, VA. The rocket is scheduled for launch at 11:27 p.m. EDT.

The Minotaur V will orbit Earth for 23 days before entering the orbit of the moon.

LADEE is designed to orbit the moon for about 100 days to collect information about the moon's atmospheric conditions.
