More than 30 Henrico Police officers are celebrating their recent promotions.
The high number of promotions is partly due to a new Henrico police station that will soon open, according to Chief of Police Douglas Middleton. It will be temporarily located at Virginia Center Commons Mall and will focus on cutting crime primarily in the Fairfield district. According to recent crime numbers,, that area has some of the highest violent crime numbers compared to the rest of the county. A number of the officers being promoted will work at the new station.
"This is the primary reason behind this large number of promotions is to promote supervision and leadership to launch this station," says Chief Middleton.
The promotions include two lieutenant colonels, three majors, four captains, ten lieutenants and 16 sergeants. Among the officers being promoted will be the county's first African American Lieutenant Colonel. That position is second in line to the Chief of Police.
