An attorney representing the mother of a 17-year-old girl connected to a police investigation with Del. Joe Morrissey says the two had no inappropriate contact.
Rob Walker read a prepared statement to the media Thursday afternoon, saying "there is no story here." Walker called reports of a police investigation involving Morrissey and the teen, "salacious, titillating and terribly misleading."
The girl is a part-time receptionist at Morrissey's law firm and a local college freshman, according to Walker.
Police were called to Morrissey's neighborhood Friday. While on scene, an officer told our news crew they were responding to a father looking for his underage daughter. Walker says the girl's was there with her mother's "permission, blessing, approval and full knowledge." He states his client knew where her daughter was going and when she would return.
The mother also told officers her daughter told her that at all times Morrissey was a gentleman and acted in a professional matter, according to Walker. He feels the reports have violated the mother and daughter's privacy.
Authorities will not confirm the details of the investigation. However, a search warrant issued for the minor's Chesterfield home Sunday reveals a Henrico police detective confiscated the girl's cell phone while investigating the possibility of someone "taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in custodial or supervisor relationship."
Morrissey did not return our repeated phone calls. He has not been arrested or charged at this time.
