Richmond contractor accused of stealing from military base due in court

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A contractor accused of stealing two electric generators from a U.S. military base in Iraq, will be in federal court Thursday in Richmond.

A plea agreement hearing is scheduled for Ruebin Thomas. The Richmond man worked for Honeywell Technologies at the military camp in Baghdad.

Thomas is accused of stealing two generators valued at $176,000 each. He's also accused of lying to the FBI.

    A woman has died, after police say she was struck by a van in Richmond. Police say the woman was walking across the 1100 block of Azalea Avenue around 3 p.m. Saturday, when she was struck by a van turning left off Seminary Avenue. The driver of that van stayed on the scene. Police say the woman was already dead when they got to the scene. The driver is not facing charges at this time. The investigation continues, as police work to notify the victim's family.

    An Amherst County Sheriff's deputy is recovering, after being shot in the head during a traffic stop Friday night. That's according to WSLS, our sister station in Roanoke. Officials say the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday, at the Monroe Post Office.
