The Henrico Commonwealth's attorney Shannon Taylor has confirmed there is a police investigation underway involving Henrico delegate Joe Morrissey (D-Henrico) and a 17-year-old girl.
Neither police nor Taylor will confirm the details of the investigation.
NBC12 has been investigating this story since last week. Our crews were given a tip on Friday that police were called to Morrissey's neighborhood. While on scene, an officer told our news crew they were responding to a father looking for his underage daughter.
A person who identifies themself as the minor's family member spoke to NBC12 over the phone. They said, "It makes me sick. It hurts me. Due to the ongoing investigation, I can't give up any more details."
NBC12 did some digging and found that a search warrant had been issued for the minor's Chesterfield home on Sunday. According to that court document, a Henrico police detective confiscated the girl's cell phone while investigating the possibility of someone "taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in custodial or supervisor relationship."
Morrissey did not return our repeated phone calls. He has not been arrested or charged at this time.
