A deal has been reached to build a new ballpark in Fredericksburg at the site where former-governor Doug Wilder envisioned building the National Slavery Museum.
The Hagerstown Suns, the City of Fredericksburg, and Diamond Nation have all agreed on a conceptual deal structure at the same 38-acre tract at Celebrate Virginia south.
The $38 million stadium would include at least five artificial turf fields for baseball and softball amateur camps and tournaments.
The agreement calls for the team to foot most of the bill for this complex, but the City would pick up the tab for the parking lots.
Nothing is set in stone yet. In fact, Maryland is trying the keep the team there by offering to build a new stadium in downtown Hagerstown.
