PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

Petersburg Police are opening up for the first time about a now fatal shooting. Police announced 28-year-old Marcellous Land died Wednesday after being shot in his car and slamming into the Broadway Inn and Suites on Monday.

This all comes as officers work another shooting in Petersburg. We caught up with the latest victim.

"I was shocked," said Christopher Michael Dunn who was shocked he had just been shot by his neighbor. "He opened the door and... next thing I know powww!"

Police quickly arrested Sherman Ward and charged him with malicious wounding. It was allegedly the result of an argument over a home construction project.

"He wasn't Mr. Ward," said Dunn. "He was some monster. I don't know. Some demon just had him right then."

Dunn lives along Buckner Street in Petersburg. Police say Monday's shooting victim also lived along Buckner Street.

"It appears that at this time there is no connection," said Esther Hyatt with Petersburg Police.

28-year-old Marcellous Land crashed into the Broad Way Inn and Suites after police say someone shot into his car in broad daylight. Land later died from injuries.

"And fortunately people have been coming forward to give information," said Hyatt. "But we are still going through all of that. We've been interviewing not only witnesses, but people who may be potential suspects."

Anyone with information about that fatal shooting is asked to call Petersburg Dinwiddie Crime Solvers at 804-861-1212.
