Nearly two dozen bands will take seven stages for the 2013 Richmond Folk Festival in October.
Venture Richmond released the list of artists for the 9th annual event Wednesday. The bands span the musical spectrum, from reggae to salsa dura and several other genres, over the course of the three-day festival. More than 200,000 people are expected to turn out for the free festival between October 11-13. Music, dance, crafts and foods round out the festival.
"We sometimes say that the artists we feature are "the best artists you've never heard of," Sims said. "They might not be household names, but when they leave our festival, they leave a mark here that Richmonders will never forget."
The festival got its start when the National Folk Festival came to town in 2005 for a three-year run, produced in partnership with the NCTA. Venture Richmond took over hosting and producing in 2008.
