Murdered girl's mom has message for Alexis Murphy's family

10-year-old Charity Powers was abducted and murdered 23 years ago in Chesterfield. Her mother, Taryn Powers Potts, says she thinks about her daughter every day but more so now that Alexis Murphy is missing.

Potts dropped off Charity at the Chester Skateland on October 5, 1990 to meet friends. The family friend who was supposed to pick Charity up, fell asleep.

With Skateland closing and no ride, Charity went to the Hardee's restaurant on the corner to use their telephone. Instead, Charity met Everett Lee Mueller.

Mueller later confessed to Chesterfield police that he met Charity at Hardee's and offered to take her home. Instead, he drove her to his house where he raped and killed her.

Her body was found four months later behind his home in a shallow grave. Mueller was convicted of her murder and sentenced to death. Mueller died by lethal injection in 1999.

Potts called NBC12 to try and get in touch with Murphy's family. She says, she empathizes with them.

"I am there if they need to contact me," said Potts. "I can understand what they're going through. I'm not them but I have been through something similar."

NBC12 reached out to Alexis Murphy's father and gave him Potts' number. Troy Brown tells us, he has received lots of love and support but it never hurts to have a little more.
