MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK: Save money on prescription glasses online

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - With prescription eyeglasses averaging $250 a pair, more and more Americans are turning to the internet to save money.

Candice Langston is a busy woman, working full time and raising two kids.

"I don't have a lot of time to shop. It's very convenient," said Langston. "It's very easy for my lifestyle to shop online."

Langston turned to Warby Parker - an online eyewear company where prescription glasses with non-reflective lenses start at $95. She bought a pair - she calls them "geek chic!"

"They're really heavy, they feel like very expensive frames and I'm sure if they had 'Gucci' printed on the side, no one would ever know the difference, I just really love them."

Warby Parker is part of an growing trend. A recent survey found most Americans spend around $250 for prescription glasses, but you can get them for as little as $7 online. is one of the most popular and least expensive. The site's software even lets you upload a picture to see how you'd look in the glasses before you order.

Other discount eyeglass sites include "39 Dollar Glasses," "Goggles 4 U" and "Eye Buy Direct." Warby Parker will ship you five sample glasses to try on before you order at no charge, but they've added another incentive to customers.

"It's sort of the Tom's Shoes model, and that's sort of how I came to find out about them, you buy a pair and they give a pair to a child across the world who otherwise wouldn't have a pair of glasses, so it's great knowing I have a pair of glasses and someone else does too."

If you're ordering online, you will need a copy of your prescription.
