Richmond police are investigating a homicide where a man was shot inside his car while driving. That car then slammed into a South Richmond home with people inside.
The driver, Samuel L. Washington, 20, was declared dead on scene.
Police canvassed the area Wednesday night looking for clues, suspects and information. Richmond police used a plane overhead and knocked on doors while trying to piece together what happened.
Investigators say Washington was shot near the intersection of German School Road and Deter Road. He then drove his black Lexus Northbound on German School Road, knocked down several mailboxes and a light pole before slamming into Bobby Lloyd's home.
Lloyd was sitting at his kitchen table with a friend when the car struck his home shortly after 7:00 p.m.
"All of a sudden we heard a crash, I jumped and saw pictures falling off the wall," said Lloyd.
The three people in the home are OK and the house sustained minor structural damage. The Lexus also crashed into Lloyd's pick-up truck, which is now totaled.
The next step for police is coming up with a suspect description.
"This is a good neighborhood," said Major Steve Drew with Richmond Police. "There's a lot of trust from this community and a lot of information has already come into us."
